27/5 Restocks

Hey PI-Fans, Things happen, shipments meander, stuff gets lost... and then suddenly it's all here at once. This basically means that the best laid plans of staggered releases gets swept away in a tsunami of stock. Those following on the board game front will be happy to note the arrival of Eleven, a Football Manager board game that will see players hopefully growing their club to greatness. Meanwhile the wargaming focused among you will be happy to note the return of the Alpha Strike Box Set, which has meandered in alongside the alternate Beginner Box containing the VND-1R Vindicator 'Mech and the Northwind Highlanders and Wolf's Dragoons boxes. Role-players will also be happy to note that we have finally managed to restock our D&D shelf after a prolonged regional drought. D&D isn't the only thing in either - there's plenty of weird and wonderful gracing the RPG shelf. We'll take [...]

Stardew Valley and an Empire Alone

Hey PI-Fans, Strange how shipping works in this day and age. You plan out arrival schedules and this absolutely wonky combination of things just drops out of the ether together despite being staggered orders. After being lost in the warp and having basically gone around the world, our shipment of Empire Alone sourcebooks for BattleTech has finally been delivered after delays. Also somehow arriving together is another batch of ConcernedApe's Stardew Valley board game, a cooperative board game set in the same setting of the bestselling indie farming life-sim. The first time we had it in, it basically just entirely disappeared, so we recommend grabbing your copy ASAP. Otherwise, there's plenty of restocks of classic titles like Sushi Go Party that people have been clamoring about. Here's to a great weekend, folks. - Kenneth From the new ilKhan on Terra comes word to the Wolf Empire of their Clan’s victory. [...]

BattleTech: Marauder – Something Wicked This Way Comes

Hey PI-Fans, The manager oddly excited ever since he managed to secure a tiny quantity of Marauder: A BattleTech Anthology. Lost since the unceremonious end to the BattleCorps subscription service in 2016, the titular Black Marauder finally rides again in what is arguably one of the weirdest books to ever grace BattleTech publication since Far Country.  "Why?", you might ask. "It's a book about a giant robot is it not?" Why yes, hypothetical reader. It is... It is a book about a giant robot. A very special giant robot. Marauder is a series of unsettling novellas told by unreliable narrators set in the BattleTech universe. One could almost describe them as horror. Except, again we don't do that here. You see, dear reader... In another science fiction universe, perhaps we'd see the arrival of silver armored warriors and an individual of inquisitive persuasion hunting a possible immaterial incursion... things like this [...]

BattleTech – A Universe of Warfare

Hey PI-Fans, BattleTech - 31st Century Armored Combat is on our Webstore   It's no secret that many of the people who run Games @ PI are BattleTech fans. For the uninitiated, BattleTech is a science fiction war-game universe set in the 30th Century, where giant walking tanks known as BattleMechs dominate the neofeudal battlefields of the future. Unlike many other science fiction properties, alien sentience isn't a big thing, so the universe retains a grounded in a Human way. It's an inviting setting and a huge sandbox, with plenty of space for players to mess about within the confines of canon. As part of our range revamp, it's also now on our webstore. The box set games remain an excellent way to get started as always, and if you're a regular player seeking to expand your game, perhaps grabbing a Lance or Star Box or a map pack or [...]

Came for the Giant Robots, Stayed for the Politics – A BattleTech Guided Tour

Hey PI-Fans, There's an old hoary chestnut that comes up amongst BattleTech fans about new technology. Time marches on though. Technical Readout 3067 is twenty years old. The now defunct MechWarrior: Dark Age collectable miniatures game launched that year as well. Catalyst Game Labs has stewarded the BattleTech liscence for longer than FASA at this point.  It's been some thirty-real world years since the original Clan Invasion storyline, and there's been some big movers and shakers in the Inner Sphere since. With the ongoing timeline now trundling forward into uncharted waters, it's a great time to get up to speed. Here's a penny tour of the BattleTech universe. Expect Spoilers, if decades old plot reveals can actually be considered spoilers.   The Universe of Warfare that many of us have grown to love and/or tolerate effectively departs from our own in 2018 when two scientists - Thomas Kearny and Takayoshi [...]

BattleTech: A Range Restock

Hey PI-Fans, Across the Neofeudal battles of the Inner Sphere, a single maxim reigns - "Life is Cheap, BattleMechs aren't." The dropships are burning in-system fast, laden with a range-restock for the BattleTech range, including a 'Mech bay full of BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat boxes and a limited range restock of Clan Star and Inner Sphere Lance boxes. Our supply of BattleTech Salvage Boxes, each containing a random BattleMech and associated Alpha Strike cards, is also dwindling fast, so if you want in on the GachaTech action, you'd best act fast. On top of this, we've also managed to secure a small quantity of important support products, including the Alpha Strike Commander's Edition rulebook and Succession Wars and Clan Invasion Alpha Strike Cards to kick up the scale of warfare to the tactical level. If you want those Trinaries and Battalions of equipment you've been amassing to hit [...]

Happy New Year – 2022

Hey PI-Fans, As we shift gears into 2022, on behalf of the Games @ PI Team, Happy New Year, folks! Here's to a good one. Some things like out taste for games don't change though - as we enter 2022 running, here's a smattering of new stuff gracing out shelves, hopefully with a little something for everyone's tastes. Travel in your hot air balloon and make use of the local winds skillfully to save the precious energy you need to speed up or slow down while exploring the rugged terrain below you. The wind can be both help and hindrance, sometimes taking you where you want to go, other times becoming something you must battle to make headway against to reach your destination. In Islands in the Mist, players explore the terrain surrounding their balloon, placing tiles on neighboring hexes as they travel. On discovered terrain, cities can be built [...]

BattleTech Lance and Star Reinforcements

Hey PI-Fans, Dropships in-bound. Reinforcements have arrived. A restock wave of Clan Invasion Box Sets, Total Warfare Books and Elemental Points have hit out shelves, bringing with them yet another wave of the Clan's advanced fighting machines to smash into the wavering Inner Sphere resistance. Carve up the enemy from afar with the Clan Fire Star, whose crushing long-ranged firepower ensures their warriors the choicest picks of a Zellbrigen engagement. The Warhawk (Inner Sphere Reporting Name "Masakari", Nova Cat, Cougar, Kit Fox (Inner Sphere Reporting Name "Uller") and Fire Moth (Inner Sphere Reporting Name "Dasher") are set to dictate the pace of any engagement with relentless salvos of crushing fire, burning the enemy to the ground, sometimes before they can even get into range. Clan warrior philosophy eschews BattleMech designs in favor of OmniMechs, which are seen as far more prestigious machines, often leaving these older designs and refits in [...]

Pay Your BattleTech Phone Bill On Time

Hey PI-Fans, Hope the week's kicking off too  a good start for you. As always, things keep chugging along at Games @ PI as we push a pair of previously kickstarted titles onto our shelves. The first is Crack the Code, a one-to-four player limited communication, co-operative puzzle game where players seek to crack a series of codes before they run out of moves. Players use a series of action cards to rearrange trays of marbles in front of them in order to match certain code arrangements. The nasty twist with Crack the Code is that players cannot see the marbles in the tray in front of them and as a result are reliant on the assistance of others. Next up is Gorinto, an abstract tile collection game for one-to-four players that sees player selecting tiles from the perimeter of the board and using their associated action to collect tiles [...]

The End of the Beginning

Hey PI-Fans, We do board games here, and one of the newest releases is Quest, a new social deduction game from the designers of The Resistance and The Resistance: Avalon. Designed for 4 to 10 players, Quest has been rebalanced for smaller groups and as Arthur's loyal servants and Mordred's unscrupulous minions struggle for the future of civilization. Though the forces of Evil are few in number, but if they go unchecked, they can sabotage Arthur's great work and bring it crashing down. Of course, we're also wargamers with a taste for giant robots and we're proud to point to the ilClan sourcebook for BattleTech on our shelves. The ilClan is the Clan term for the "Clan of all Clans", determined by which Clan manages to capture the cradle of humanity: Terra. In the year 3151, Terra winds up under siege as the Children of Kerensky finally break through the [...]
