How to Get Started Playing Board Games in 2020

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Board Games! Lots of us grew up playing board games as kids - Remember the fun times playing Scrabble, Monopoly, Risk or Jenga with friends and family? Well, board games grew up too, and like you, they’ve stayed awesome. Board games haven’t stopped bringing people together even though we’re now spending more time adulting –  from the abstract to the epic, board games come in a variety of themes and its our most sincere belief that there's a board game for everyone! Here are four reasons why we believe board games are awesome! Board games are social - Board games allow people to interact with each other and you’ll learn a lot about the people you’re playing games with while playing games with them. Whether a person is cautious and defensive or clever and aggressive often shines through in how they play a game [...]

Webstore Updates – July 20, 2020

Hey PI-Fans, The last couple of weeks have been something of a mad scramble to keep apace with preorders for the upcoming Warhammer 40,000 Indomitus Box Set. We're still taking preorders for the 'Made-to-Order' wave until July 23rd but we've also taken some time to expand our online board game range. Perhaps, you're in the mood for a quiet two-player board game? Joining our usual recommendations like Jaipur, Codenames Duet and Onitama is Rivals for Catan, a neat little head-to-head implementation of the great Catan gameplay. Looking for something more rowdy? Try the party games King of Tokyo (and the slick noir themed King of Tokyo Dark) and smash the city (and your friends) in a fast moving Kaiju romp. Or test your spatial skills in a high-speed race to assemble a customer order in Bubble Tea. If you're after something a bit more (or less cerebral) depending on your [...]

The Blob That Ate Everything!

Hey PI-Fans, Previously released at Gen Con 2019, The Blob That Ate Everything scenario pack for the Arkham Horror Card Game is now available at the Games @ PI webstore. Like the classic horror films that inspired it, the scenario sends investigators to the town of Blackwater, even as the town is in the process of being devoured by a strange, viscous and exceptionally hungry blob monster. It's up to the investigators to discover a way to contain this slimy menace before... well... the scenario name does give it away. The Blob That Ate Everything scenario pack pits your Arkham Horror investigators against this fourth-wall breaking horror as it slowly engulfs a town, and purchasing additional copies of this pack, allow it to be run as a massive convention level scenario across multiple cooperating tables. You can order your own copy of The Blob That Ate Everything at our webstore now, [...]

What if you had the power to create the Earth as you like it? In Ecos: First Continent, players take on the role as primordial forces who are to shape the World's first continent at the dawn of time. The aim of the game is to score the most points by building as much of the natural landscape as possible; filling it with flora and fauna. The interesting thing about this game is players play simultaneously.  Means as you're happily building your savannas [...]

Abandon All Artichokes Review

Gamewright games have always amused me. With titles like Sushi Go!, Go Nuts for Donuts and Forbidden Island, they’ve proven consistent entry points for new players looking to start playing board games, providing their own spin on the card drafting, simultaneous action and cooperative genres. Now, Gamewright is putting their own twisted little spin on deck-building games with Abandon All Artichokes, a classy little two-to-four player ‘deck-destruction’ game that provides a wonderful entry point into the genre. TLDR: Abandon All Artichokes is a speedy deck-building card game where players draft vegetable cards from a central garden and use their respective card abilities to rid their hand and deck of artichoke cards. The first player to draw a hand free of artichokes cards immediately wins the game. Simple rules make this easy to learn, but the game also possesses a take-that mechanism that allows players to ‘sabo’* each other, and a surprising [...]

And of course, where would we be without party and family games? And on the wargaming front… we’ve expanded the BattleTech range, but also more importantly put up a Start Collecting! Warhammer 40,000 [...]

New For You

Hey PI-Fans,The Games @ PI team has been hard at work slowly chewing through our backlog of titles and I’d like to seize on this opportunity to feature a pair of titles new to the webstore; Walking in Burano and Seikatsu: A Pet’s Life. Seikatsu: A Pet’s Life is an abstract tile playing game of adorable animals. Players plop down a mass of pets lounging on cushions, while trying to form large collections of animals to score. Placement becomes even more important in the end game as the arrangement of coloured cushions, relative to each player scores them additional points, so players must consider where they are putting down pets for proper points. Walking in Burano is a card drafting game about building and decorating houses in Burano, a beautiful island of Venice. In Walking in Burano, players draft floor cards featuring different personal decor items to build three floor [...]
