Berlin Escalated Quickly? – 03/02/24

Hey PI-Fans, With CNY slowly creeping up upon everyone, we've managed to sneak in another pile of stuff into the store, including of a couple of new fast playing board games this week. While Ticket to Ride: Berlin and That Escalated Quickly represent brand new titles finding their way to the shelf, beloved titles like Wingspan, 7 Wonders and Azul have been reloaded. If you need a stockpile of CNY supplies, don't forget to grab a stash of Bicycle plastic or plastic clay-filled Poker Chips - we won't tell you how to use your gaming supplies, but we have some ideas. Ticket to Ride: Berlin provides another standalone small box twist on the classic Ticket to Ride formula with players managing both the Berlin Straßenbahn (Streetcar) network and the U-bahn (Subway) in order to connect multiple destinations within the city.  In this fast-paced Ticket to Ride game, players race one another to [...]

The Post-Holiday Stockup – 16/1/24

Hey PI-Fans, The Post-New Year period is one where stores assess the post-Christmas rush and get to work filling up the shelves. Games @ PI is no exception, and the team has been hard at work ensuring we've a store full of fancy. This isn't to say we've been neglecting the weird and wonderful of the board game world of course - after all, we just magicked up a stack of Decrypto and Wavelength for the social gamers while resource management fans can grab a copy of Wingspan, Brass Lancashire or Brass Birmingham off the shelf. Of course, if you're after something new to broaden your palette, we recommend The Vale of Eternity, an EXCELLENT little creature collector card game by Korean publisher Mandoo games. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_aTOOjj9C4   Board and Card Game New Releases: Decrypto 5th Anniversary Edition The Vale of Eternity Important Restocks: Brass Birmingham Brass Lancashire Wavelength Wingspan [...]

Store Restocks and the Law of Shipment Attraction

Hey PI-Fans, For those of you who are curious about how logistics for a game company works, the honest answer is it doesn't. No matter how one plans shipments and plot and spaces things out... you can't control the shipping pipeline and while the best planning does mitigate things to an extent, sometimes it all just arrives at once. This is one of those times. The New Arrival shelf is absolutely brimming with piles of new stuff, including the long-awaited return of a slab of Avalon Hill Classics. Meanwhile, the football manager board game Eleven bursts back onto the scene with expansions to keep even the most jaded of coaches happy. Those seeking a more solitary gaming experience can pore over the details with the return of all three MicroMacro: Crime City sets while legacy game fans can look into the massive undertaking that is Oath.     In Oath, [...]

Restock Waves

Hey PI-Fans, Boy... It's been a while hasn't it.  Time waits for nobody and there's never enough of it really. In my ongoing attempts to keep the store full of cool stuff, it's time to update the website. It's a long overdue update, haha. Worth mentioning is that in addition to spread of board and card games, we've gotten in a useful spread of accessories from the Sultan with 100-card deck boxes, mini-snaps, magnetic-snaps and plastic sleeves  as well as inner 'perfect fit' sleeves for both Standard and Japanese trading card sizes, making this an excellent way to protect both Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering Commander decks. On top of that, here's some of the new stuff that's made it's way to the shelves.     The army of the evil Dragon Queen marches across the land, leaving destruction in its wake. An alliance of desperate defenders stands against the [...]

Descent: The Betrayer’s War – “More Dungeon, More Crawl”

Hey PI-Fans, The Betrayer's War expansion for the Descent: Legends of the Dark board game is an absolute doozy. Arriving in a massive box almost the same size as the original, the game of cooperative 3D dungeon crawling returns with a massive expansion to the main in a campaign that takes on the role of Act 2 of the journey of the heroes through Terrinoth. Building on the original, the game will continue to send heroes questing across a variety of different terrain and encounters as they seek to end the threat of the Waiqar the Undying, Dragonlord Levirax and the monstrous Uthuk Y’llan. Whether they succeed, on the other hand depends on the skill, luck and tenacity of the players in this App-Driven Game-Masterless dungeon romp. If you've ever wanted to play a RPG campaign but could never settle on armtwisting someone in to being the GM, this may [...]

Mists Over Carcassonne – Aka. What Carcassonne really needs is Ghosts!

Hey PI-Fans, Are you troubled by strange noises in the middle of the night? Do you experience feelings of dread in your basement or attic? Have you or your family ever seen a spook, spectre or ghost? If the answer is "yes," then don't wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals... Okay. Now that I've gotten that out of my system, maybe consider this week's shelf arrival Mists over Carcassonne, a cooperative reimplementation of the board game classic that sees players band together to build the prefecture before it is swallowed by an overwhelming malevolent mist. Designed as a standalone expansion for classic Carcassonne, Mists over Carcassonne introduces Mist Tiles to the traditional game of roads, fields and cities, which when placed on the board, come replete with their own complement of ghosts meeples. These ghastly supernatural interlopers serve as a 'death clock' of sorts for [...]

The Traditional Restock Post

Hey PI-Fans, You've probably seen this way too many times, but due diligence demands the announcement be made. Pallets of stuff have drifted in from across the ocean and have meandered their way onto the store shelves yet again. This of course means filled shelves and stacks upon stacks of cool stuff so if you fancy a card game with a bit more depth you can pick up Happy Little Dinosaurs, Here to Slay or grab a copy of Citadels. A reload of our party games shelves with Exploding Kittens, Zombie Kittens, Really Loud Librarians, Poetry for Neanderthals and Hand to Hand Wombat provides a spread of cool stuff to keep the laughter going. Brazil Imperial – 4X 101

Hey PI-Fans, Are you a fan of Civ style games? Perhaps we have a game for you. Portal Game's Brazil Imperial presents an euro-style take on the traditional 4X game (eXpand, eXplore, eXploit, eXterminate). Brazil Imperial is played on a modular map board that recreate real regions in Brazil during the 16th century,, utilising a combination of worker placement mechanics, engine building and area control to dominate the differing eras.  Designed as a midweight empire-builder, players take control of a colonial power seeking to make your mark on the country by expanding their imperial control over the passage of three eras. Players are tasked with contructing cities, farms and mines to produce wood, sugar cane, coffee, raise armies and march out to explore (and occupy) the country.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxYQAXW03xw https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXcl9VyGcP4

ELEVEN – A Beautiful Game About The Beautiful Game

Hey PI-Fans, Portal Games' Eleven zooms out from the pitch and brings a managerial touch to club football, placing players in the hot seat of a struggling manager trying to bring their team to the top of the table. In this competitive one-to-four player game, players each manage all aspects of their own football club in order to defeat their opponents and claw their way to the top of the league at the end of a six week season. Each game turn is broken into five phases and represents a week of activity. The 'Monday' phase sees players scrambling to their Board Meeting where players must manage the expectations of their board of directors in addition to receiving the funds allocated to them for the week. As different board members each have their own priorities on how to run the club, these differing approaches can greatly help or hinder the [...]

27/5 Restocks

Hey PI-Fans, Things happen, shipments meander, stuff gets lost... and then suddenly it's all here at once. This basically means that the best laid plans of staggered releases gets swept away in a tsunami of stock. Those following on the board game front will be happy to note the arrival of Eleven, a Football Manager board game that will see players hopefully growing their club to greatness. Meanwhile the wargaming focused among you will be happy to note the return of the Alpha Strike Box Set, which has meandered in alongside the alternate Beginner Box containing the VND-1R Vindicator 'Mech and the Northwind Highlanders and Wolf's Dragoons boxes. Role-players will also be happy to note that we have finally managed to restock our D&D shelf after a prolonged regional drought. D&D isn't the only thing in either - there's plenty of weird and wonderful gracing the RPG shelf. We'll take [...]
