BattleTech is a turn-based multiplayer miniature war game which simulates combat between futuristic mechanized forces in the fictional BattleTech universe.

Like other typical miniature war games , the major chunk of gameplay consist of moving units across the map and deploying them to attack and take down the opposition .

A turn consists of four different phases; Initiative, Movement, Combat and End Phase. Initiative Phase is where both the players roll two D6 dice and the player with the lower result would begin their turn first. The second player would given an advantage as they would know their opponents moves and can counter them. Movement, Combat, End phase are just as what the names suggest, players move their troops, attack, calculate the damage dealt and end their turn. After the End phase, players return to the Initiative Phase, and the cycle begins anew until a player meets the victory condition, which is to destroy all the opposition’s army.

Hexagon shaped tiled, great looking miniatures, and awesome strategic gameplay options will definitely attract not just diehard fans of the BattleTech series, but will also please all other miniature war gamers/hobbyists. As for new miniature war gamers this would be an option for them as it’s simple to understand mechanics will definitely appeal and suit them more as compared to some other board games.

Android: Netrunner is an asymmetrical Living Card Game (LCG) for two players. The theme of the game is cyberpunk.

Before the start of the game, the two players decides amongst themselves as to which role they will be utilising, the Corporation, or the Runner. For both the sides the winning condition would be to reach seven points.

Netrunner 2

If you play as the Corporation, your goal would be to score agendas by advancing the agendas. The Corporation would need time and credits to advance this agendas to their desired state. To act as a layer of protection and time buying measure, the Corporation would need to install “Ice”. “Ice” is in simple terms a security program that the Corporation has in order to stop any attack from the Runners.

As for the Runners, they need to spend time and credits to acquire a number of different resources, such as hardware and “Ice” breaking software. Runners are playing against the time, as the Corporation would be hard to stop once they have fully established their defences. To make up for it, Runners are given an extra click (action) every turn compared to the Corporation. When a runner attempts to attack the Corporation, they run a risk of losing their acquired wealth, like hardware and resources.

Love Letter, is a quick and easy to learn card game. Love Letter is primarily a strategy game that requires players to make careful deduction of their cards and also that of their opponent. Love Letter caters to 2 to 4 players, and should not take more than 10 minutes per round.

Love letter 2

Love Letter revolves around a plot where the player has to deliver their love letter to the princess to gain her love. The winning condition would be to get their love letter closest to the princess . There are only sixteen cards in the game. The cards represents the different characters and they all have varying degree of influence towards the princess. In the end, the player with the character that has the highest influence rating would win the round. Each character has a different card effects that might cause players to be knocked out of the round. Each round is fairly quick and the outcome of the game is decided over a number of rounds.

Other derivatives of Love Letter would be Love Letter: Legend of Five Rings, Lost Legacy (The Starship), Love Letter (Batman), and Loot Letter (Collaboration of Munchkins and Love Letters). All of this has very similar gameplay as to the original Love Letter. These games however do have small changes in terms of art and gameplay to cater for the theme that they are designed in.

For a game that comprises of a mere 16 cards to cater for its gameplay, it is quite diversified and it does evoke a number of emotions along the game. Needless to say, keeping you entertained the whole time. This is a great game that cater to almost all kinds of players. Anyone who is looking to have a quick game session with a group up to four people, would definitely enjoy this game.

Avalon is the revamp of Don Eskridge’s The Resistance and is a standalone game. It can be played by 5 to 10 players and on average lasts around 30 minutes of game time.

Like The Resistance, Avalon has similar gameplay and mechanics, however, it aims to create a different feel to the environment during the gameplay with the introduction of new characters. Example like there is a new character called merlin, merlin knows everyone’s role other than tone specific role. No one else knows who merlin is. Avalon and The Resistance are compatible therefore you can combine them.

Some would ask ‘if Avalon is a stand-alone game that is similar to The Resistance, why should I buy The Resistance?’ Each of the game has its own unique features. In the case of Avalon, it is placed in medieval timeline whereas The Resistance is set in a futuristic timeline with corrupted government.

If you think you got what it takes to protect Merlin and the innocent villagers or be the most evil person and remove everyone, Avalon will be the choice for you.

Rikki Tahta’s Coup is a deduction and deception card game requiring players to outwit their opponents. While Coup d’état is a French word that means to overthrow or force seizure of a state, Coup has the players representing the states. It has slight similarities with the game The Resistance and Avalon. It can be played by 2 to 6 players with the play time of 15 minutes.

At the beginning, each player will have 2 cards face down (only known to the player themselves). Players will make a certain move like either earn coins or to eliminate player’s cards. Players that do not have any cards left are out of the game. The last player wins the game.

Coup is easy to learn yet challenging and hard to win because you need you know the players well as this is a deception game which they can either be telling you the truth or lying to you. One wrong move will cause you to lose the game, and as Jean Roqua from Never Back Down would say, “The decision is in your hand, you control the outcome.”
