Betrayal at Calth Painting Log Part 1

Kew's Painting Log  Hi everyone, today I’m going to show all of you that painting can be done in three simple steps, Washing, Over brushing and Dry brushing. Those that follow these steps will be able to paint decently enough, even for beginners. First of all, you need to undercoat the miniature it with a primer. Primer is a coating layer that helps ensure that the paint stick on the miniature and does not fall off easily. For beginners, I would recommend priming it either black or white.  The reason I primed it [the model] white is because I’ll be painting it yellow for the base colour. As yellow is a bright colour, priming it black may not be a good idea because it will cause the model to look duller after painting a bright colour on a black surface. Now the issue with a white undercoat is that it [...]

Abstract Contrast

Hey PI-Fans, We though we might start this week with a few abstract titles. Here's a wave of light strategy to get the week going. Crabz is an aggressive little strategy game about stacks of crabs. With the tide coming in, crabs scuttle to safety, inadvertently piling on top of each other in a bid to escape the waves. With large crabs happily plonking themselves on top of smaller ones, players work to immobilize opponents by pinning their crabs underneath crabs of their colour in an attempt to have the last available free crabs when the tide comes in. Despite it's obviously punny name, Battle Sheep is a light and fast playing territory control game. In Battle Sheep, players control flocks of sheep trying to sieze the biggest chunk of a pasture for themselves. Each flock consists of a stack of sheep, which slowly splits into smaller stacks as they control ground, becoming less and less flexible the [...]

Betrayal at Calth – Interns’ Edition

With the release of The Horus Heresy - Betrayal at Calth, we're introduced to the 31st Millennium of the Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe. While some of us are busy assembling our miniatures, our interns here at Games @ PI are already painting the miniatures up for a store demo! In our recent poll on our Facebook page, you guys have voted for the Iron Warriors and the Imperial Fists to be the rival legions painted by the store, so without further ado, let's hear from our interns, Kew Sheng Yao, and Mokan s/o Yoganathan! Kew's Introduction Painting, the way of making things look pretty and outstanding. Most people say it’s costly as you need to buy a huge range of colours and tools which are not cheap. That’s what I understand about painting, but there are others who disagree with this statement. So in order to decide for myself, I’ve decided [...]

Back In The Loop

Hey PI-Fans, Apologies, folks. Duty called and I ended up spending the past couple of weeks in holed up somewhere near Lim Chu Kang. But enough about me.  You're here for the games. We've got our usual spread of new stuff, and all those Splendor, Ticket to Ride and Dixit restocks you've been waiting for. Business as usual, folks! Alternatively described as a gripping co-operative game of supernatural deduction and a "game of ghosts, murder and hilarious incompetence", in Mysterium, players are alternately Mediums attempting to grapple with cryptic clues from a haunting as they attempt to solve a murder, or a Ghost who is increasingly frustrated by the inability of the Mediums to follow his instructions. Will the murder be solved before the harried Ghost player has an aneurysm and collapses? In Shakespeare, players are theater managers who must recruit actors, craftsmen, jewelers and others in order to assemble everything needed for [...]

Dale’s XV88 Broadside Painting Log

It's still the month of the Tau for fans of Warhammer 40,000! To prove that anyone can paint tabletop quality models, our staff, Dale, decided to take on the challenge to speed paint (and assemble) the fantastic Tau XV88 Broadside Battlesuit just a couple of days ago. Without further ado, lets dive into the makings of! October 27th, 2015 8:00 PM: I pried open a box of the XV88 Broadside Battlesuit. Looking at the components inside, there doesn't seem to be many. This should be fairly doable. 8:38 PM: Seems like the XV88 Broadside Battlesuit is now online! I finished building it with the options that I wanted. As expected, it wasn't all that challenging. Took me longer than anticipated as I was managing the Netrunner League as well. 8:42 PM: Joe offered to help with the undercoat (or priming of the model) since I was busy with the League. 8:49 PM: The [...]
