The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin 2: Beating a Dead Horse

A horse is a horse…

A corpse, of course! The rowdiest crowd of munchkins ever to wreck a saloon is back for more in The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin 2: Beating a Dead Horse! Fight new varmints like the Cattywampus or the Eyes of Texas! Ride new steeds like Ol’ Plug and the One-Trick Pony! And if all else fails, call in the new Class… the Cavalry!

This new set contains 56 new Wild West-themed cards specifically for use in The Good, the Bad, and the Munchkin, although they can also be added to any other Munchkin game. It is very much not a stand-alone game, either way.

Hordes Legion of Everblight Heavy Warbeast Plastic Kit

The warlocks that serve the dragon Everblight can call upon a myriad of dragonspawn, each a perfect engine of draconic destruction.

The Carnivean, an ancient and favored dragonspawn, shreds flesh, bone, and steel with its mighty claws and a shark-like maw.

The Ravagore engulfs foes in gouts of blighted fire – emulating the fearsome breath of its progenitors.

Terrifying in its brutal simplicity, the sickle-armed Scythean is another ancient breed created to  destroy any who oppose its masters will.

This Boxed Set contains 1 plastic model – which is able to be constructed as either a Carnivean, Ravagore, or Scythean. This model is supplied unpainted, and assembly may also be required.

Flames of War: Blood, Guts, and Glory

It’s September 1944 and the Allies have stormed across France all along the front lines from Belgium to the French region of the Lorraine.

Patton’s unstoppable Third Army is poised to strike into Germany itself, with the hard-charging 4th Armored Division in the lead. Nothing, it seemed, stood in the division’s way as it pressed on.

However, the Germans still had fight in them. Four of Hitler’s brand new Panzer Brigades, specifcally crafted from lessons learned on the Soviet front, were diverted to meet the Americans in the Lorraine. The brigades were given all of Germany’s latest weapons from Panther tanks to assault rifles and more. The heavily armed units were ready to counterattack!

The two forces clashed east of the city of Nancy at a quiet farming village called Arracourt. The battlefield was ideal for a tank battle. The rolling fields and small villages played host to over 450 American and German tanks as they fought one of the largest battles of World War II.

Tankers and Armored Doughs of the hard-charging 4th Armored Division have been charging down the retreating German army since July 1944. No opposition is too tough for the citizen solider army of the USA!

The new Panzer Brigades are armed with the best equipment available. They are poised to cut off the US Third Army in one concerted attack that will demonstrate Germany still has fight left!

Shadowrun: The Twilight Horizon

The Horizon Corporation is everywhere. They’re in the trids you watch, the music you listen to, and the news you consume. They’re propping up hundreds of major brands of products across the planet with their public relations skill. And they’re spending countless hours studying how you—that’s right, you—think so that they can lead your mind like a master leads a spaniel.

Denizens of the Sixth World have long suspected that there is a dark side to Horizon, if only because the corporation seemed too good to be true. If there is a dark side, it seems likely to come out soon, as the corporation has been under tremendous pressure recently—technomancers are plotting against it, spirits are causing problems in the Mojave, and Aztechnology is on the offensive, intent on keeping the competition down. That pressure is going to result in an explosion somewhere, and when it does, Horizon and the Sixth World will be changed forever.

The Twilight Horizon is a campaign book involving shadowrunners in the inner workings of Horizon and the troubles surrounding the corporation. Everything is leading to a crisis, and the runners will need to use all their skills to come out alive on the other side. Filled with plot details, location information (including details about Las Vegas in the Sixth World), and NPC write-ups, the book throws Shadowrun players into a cyclone of corporations, spirits, criminals, and others looking to grab a small piece of Horizon’s immense power.

The Twilight Horizon is for use with Shadowrun, Twentieth Anniversary Edition.

BattleTech Historical: Liberation of Terra v1

In 2766, decades of careful planning and manipulation finally culminated when Stefan Amaris wiped out the entire Cameron dynasty in a bloody coup. Rallying the might of the SLDF behind him, General Aleksandr Kerensky immediately attacked Amaris’ Rim Worlds Republic, before turning his full fury against the Usurper’s “Empire”, launching one of the greatest military campaigns in Inner Sphere history.

Historical: Liberation of Terra, Volume 1 describes the early years of the civil war that would ultimately bring about the final end of the first Star League. Covering the fighting from the coup itself to the bloody campaign for the Terran Hegemony, this book provides a hard look at the closing years of the Star League Era, and the fateful decisions that would eventually pave the way for centuries of Succession Wars to come.

The Castles of Burgundy

The game is set in the Burgundy region of Medieval France. Each player takes on the role of an aristocrat, controlling a small princedom. While playing, they aim to build settlements and powerful castles, practice trade along the river, exploit silver mines, and use knowledge from travellers.

The game is about placing settlement tiles into the princedom. Every tile has a function that starts when the tile is placed. The princedom itself consists of several regions, each of which demands its own settlement tile.

The core game mechanism involves two dice. The pips show the kind of action the players are allowed to do (example: roll a 2 and a 5: using the 2 the player buys a watch tower and places it on a 5 city tile which triggers the function of the tower with additional advantages).

It is also possible to influence the dice, so the player is not completely subject to luck.

The rules include basic and advanced versions.

Dixit

Everybody is a storyteller in Dixit.

Every turn, the storyteller must choose an image from his hand and make up a sentence. The other players select amongst their six images the one that best matches the sentence made up by the storyteller.

After shuffling all the cards together they are shown face up randomly, and every player has to bet upon what picture was the original genesis for the one-sentence tale.

Winner of multiple awards and considered by many to be one of the most beautifully illustrated games ever made, Dixit is a perfect game for gatherings and parties.

Puerto Rico

The players are plantation owners in Puerto Rico in the days when ships had sails. Growing up to five different kind of crops—corn, indigo, sugar, tobacco, and coffee—they must try to run their business more efficiently than their close competitors: growing crops and storing them efficiently, developing San Juan with useful buildings, deploying their colonists to best effect, selling crops at the right time, and, most importantly, shipping their goods back to Europe for maximum benefit.

The game system lets players choose the order of the phases in each turn by allowing each player to choose a role from those remaining when it is their turn. No role can be selected twice in the same round. The player who selects the best roles to advance their position during the game will win.

Carcassonne

Carcassonne is a tile-placement game in which the players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile might feature a city, a road, a cloister, grassland or some combination thereof, and it must be placed adjacent to tiles that have already been played, in such a way that cities are connected to cities, roads to roads, etcetera. Having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his meeples on one of the areas on it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a robber, on a cloister as a monk, or on the grass as a farmer. When that area is complete, that meeple scores points for its owner.

During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like: “Is it really worth putting my last meeple there?” or “Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it near my opponent instead, giving him a hard time to complete his project and score points?” Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities.

So look through your old cameras, look through your Facebook pages, your Flickr accounts, your old photo albums (do people still have those?), anywhere you keep old photos, and see if you’ve got awesome SPORE photos.

Full photo contest details and updates can be found at our SPORE Webpage (which has recently been totally revamped, so we suggest checking the whole site out), and you can peruse our SPORE pictures at our SPORE Facebook page! And by all means, comment and tag yourself and your friends!

Roleplaying 101

Join us tomorrow, Saturday, 28 April, for Roleplaying 101. Hosted in conjunction with the Budding Writers League, this workshop focuses on the creation of vibrant characters, whether for an RPG or for a written story, and takes a look at the overlap between the two fields and how writers can use quick-and-simple tricks employed by RPG players to flesh out characters on the fly.

Hosted by Kenneth Kooi, with special guest speaker Terence Ho, author of Crown of Earth’s Desire.

Full details are available at the Budding Writers League webpage!

Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small

For the last year, Uwe Rosenberg has been working hard on this game, his objective to offer a specialized two-player version of Agricola that would offer the same sensation as the original, but in a much shorter, more direct form. The result is a game that is not only fast to play, but takes seconds to set up. This gives you the possibility of playing the game over and over!

In Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small, you become an animal breeder (horses, cows, sheep, and pigs) and try to make the most of your pastures. You will start the game with a personal board that you must make bigger by adding additional parcels of land or by building new infrastructures, because as the game advances, your herd continues to grow!
